and raise awareness for HPE, too!

Families for HoPE, Inc. is picking up speed in its effort to raise public awareness for HPE.

Last fall, race car driver Joshua Timmerman, 19, of Indianapolis approached Families for HoPE to inquire about using his race car to promote awareness for HPE.  Timmerman’s mother, Debbie, is a home-health nurse who attends preschool with and cares for Sammy Harley, a 4-year old Indianapolis boy born with HPE.  Timmerman said that he wanted to support a cause, and Families for HoPE was a natural fit for him and his family who also serve as members of his racing team.

Timmerman has his work cut out for him for the 2007 season. He attends the University of Northwestern Ohio, maintaining a 3.6 GPA and has received the ARCA Re/Max Series Scholarship for the past two years.   Timmerman spends his free time working on race cars in the ARCA Re/Max Series to gain hands-on experience to succeed in the world of motorsports.

Along with attending the University, Timmerman is preparing for the 2007 Rookie of the Year competition at Anderson Speedway and looking for his first career win in the Ed Martin Auto Group SuperTrucks.  Timmerman raced in the Street Stock division at Kokomo Speedway in 2005 and then advanced to Anderson Speedway and the SuperTruck Division in later part of the 2006 season.

“Our team has worked very hard the last few years," said Timmerman. "With no sponsorship and a limited budget, I'm very happy with the results we have achieved. We continued to make progress at the end of last year, but were bitten with multiple mechanical failures. We are looking forward to taking the checkered flag in 2007!”

Families for HoPE, Inc. is excited to be working with such a committed young man who has a heart filled with compassion and respect for families and children with HPE!  Go, Josh, go!
